Article summary

By default, dashboards are not added to any locations within the Salesforce environment. This means that your organization needs to take action to ensure that dashboards are available to your Salesforce users.

Salesforce Classic instructions

To make dashboard snapshots available in Salesforce home page layouts, complete the following steps:

  1. At the top-right portion of any Salesforce page, select Setup.
  2. On the left-hand side of the setup page, go to the Customize section and select Home > Home Page Layouts.
  3. In the home page layouts list, find the layout that dashboard snapshots will be added to and select Edit.
    • You can also select New to create a new home page layout.
  4. In the Edit Home Layout page, select the Dashboard Snapshot checkbox to turn dashboard snapshots on for this home page layout. Then, select Next.

  1. Use the up and down arrows to change the placement of the dashboard snapshot on the home page layout. Then, select Save.
    • Select Save & Assign to assign the home page layout to Salesforce profiles (for example, marketing).
  2. Complete steps 3-6 for each home page layout that should have dashboard snapshots available.

Dashboards should now be available for Salesforce users with the assigned home page layouts.

Your organization can direct its Salesforce users to view the dashboard snapshot on their home pages. Also, if the data currently being displayed in the dashboard is not relevant to a user, they can select Customize Page at the top-right corner of the dashboard snapshot to find a different Salesforce dashboard to display for them.

Salesforce Lightning instructions

Please review Salesforce’s Build a Custom Home Page for Lightning Experience learning module to learn how to build a custom home page and assign it to Salesforce users. Dashboards are just one of the standard components that can be added to a Salesforce home page layout this way, and a default dashboard can be assigned to users in Lightning.
